Series: Focal Point
Interior design teaches a simple but critical rule when designing a room, it's called "Focal Point." This rule teaches that before you design and decorate your room you must first establish a focal point. The focal point is the chosen object or part of the room that the entire design will be oriented around. It will determine furniture arrangement, traffic flow, artwork placement and even paint color. You can imagine if a focal point is not chosen the confusion that results in the design, or if a poor focal point is chosen, such as a side door, the room is doomed to be off balance.
This rule of design paints for us a clear analogy of our desperate need to ensure that Jesus is the focal point of all life. Even as I write this, in the background my boys are watching a TV program emphasizing the beauty of our planet. Some have made Earth the focal point of their life and in doing so life becomes off balance; they center themselves on the creation rather than the creator.
The book of Colossians is known as the most Christ centered book in all the Bible. It reveals to us over and over Christ at the center of all. The book gifts us with divine keys to design our everyday lives around Jesus.
We cannot allow anything other than Jesus to be the focal point in our life or church, not our faith, our works or even our worship. All of these are in response to Jesus as the center. When Christ remains central and supreme, all other aspects of life find their proper place and proper enjoyment. My prayer is that as we spend time in this rich book we will discover greater grace to live our days designed around Jesus.
